This is the first is a series of lessons for all you heli pilots that need a help flying the helicopter.
(1) Position yourself behind and to one side of the heli. Generally 8 to 10ft. behind and 2 to 4ft. to one side is good.
(2) Always practice with the nose into the wind.Trying to learn how to hover in a cross wind is futile.
(3) Never let the heli get more than a foot off the ground. This automatically gives you nice short hop's in the air, and should never result in a tip-over. It's easy to chop the power and let the heli settle back down if things get out of control.
(4) Keep the heli within a ten foot circle. This will keep you from running all over the field. Practicing on asphalt will help, you can draw a circle on the ground and stay in it.The asphalt will let the training gear slide and not catch the grass.
(5) When you get out of the circle take a min. and rest. Then Move the heli back to the center and start again. Nose into the wind allways.
(6) Make each hop a definite learning attempt. Ten purposeful hover attempts are better than twenty half-hearted hops.
(7) Concentrate your attention around the mainshaft and the nose. You want to watch the nose for tail rotor so left is left.
(8) Practice, practice, practice any time you can. early in the morning and late afternoon are best.
(9) Practice three charges or three full bettery's each time. It takes one to get warmed up and the other two to start the learning process. Any more than that and you'll tire yourself out and get frustrated.

Well thats about it for now we'll do part 2 next time, Advanved hovering and manuvers.

See you out there...JIM
